Amazon has joined its Big Tech fellows in ramping up censorship of any criticism of the “official” Covid-19 narrative, deploying obfuscatory excuses to justify removing journalist James Perloff’s latest book, he told RT.

After selling a respectable 3,500 copies over the last two months, Perloff’s book on the coronavirus pandemic and its weaponization by world governments, ‘Covid-19 and the Agendas to Come: Red-Pilled,’ was suddenly “banned” by Amazon.com, the writer revealed on Twitter on Thursday.

Perloff spoke to RT on Friday about the platform’s ominous act of censorship and how it seemed to validate his book’s conclusions, expressing concern that “the censorship on Covid has been getting progressively stronger, even as the death rate from Covid has been getting progressively lower.”

“We are in a truly Orwellian culture.“

The first sign of trouble came on Thursday when Amazon requested that he “clarify [his] rights to the book” – something he had already done upon putting it up for sale back in August. But before he could finish gathering the material required to prove once again that he owned the global rights to his own work, he received another email from Amazon, this time claiming they had removed his book “during a quality assurance review of [his] catalog” because it “violated content guidelines.”

We reserve the right to determine whether content provides a poor customer experience and remove the content from sale.

With five other books already listed on the platform, Perloff has communicated with Amazon extensively over the years, but something was off about these latest messages. In previous communications, “they would usually at least give a first name,” he said. “This time I was dealing with persons – or a person – who was cowering behind total anonymity.”

The book traces how the Covid-19 pandemic has been used by governments around the world to force draconian social control measures upon a terrified populace, evaluates several theories regarding the virus’ origin, and offers some projections about what might lie ahead for humanity – including how populations might work together to avoid some of the most totalitarian outcomes.

Perloff insists the information within was meticulously sourced from medical professionals, academic publications, and frontline physicians, with hundreds of endnotes referencing scholarly journals and other unimpeachable sources. “There is nothing I say in the book that isn’t documented,” he said, pointing out that several other coronavirus dissenters are selling their books on the platform without incident.

The political analyst is far from the first to run afoul of Amazon’s increasingly stringent censorship. But while he is familiar with the trials and tribulations of former New York Times reporter Alex Berenson, who found his own corona-skeptic tome temporarily squelched until billionaire Elon Musk drew attention to the censorship on social media, Perloff cynically lamented that he himself lacks “friends among the rich and famous” to rescue his book from Amazon’s growing digital bonfire.

Ultimately, however, he has faith in the Streisand effect, in which heavy-handed censorship efforts backfire and draw attention to the content they seek to suppress. “If you say to people, ‘Don’t read this book,’ their instinct is to go and read it.”

Section 230 protects internet companies from liability when it comes to removing 3rd party content at their own discretion with the exceptions to laws such as federal crimes and intellectual property claims.

Meanwhile, Missouri Senator Josh Howley has asked the FEC to investigate possible election law violations by Facebook and Twitter while urging the Trump administration to formally complain.

While most conservative voices likely see this news as a hopeful way of reestablishing free speech for all on the internet’s most popular speech networks, Congressman Matt Gaetz has a much less optimistic outlook.

“Congress is not going to rein in Big Tech, because Congress is bought by Big Tech,” Gaetz told Breitbart News. “There are just simply too many members of the House and Senate who are beholden to Big Tech either because of political donations or because their family members are getting employed by Big Tech.”

“What we need is a focus on appointments to the FCC and to the FEC with people who understand the extent to which Big Tech bias is actually election interference and is also a violation of our communication standards and that they wouldn’t fall under certain liabilities under the Communications Decency Act,” Gaetz would add.

Gaetz also called on his congress colleagues to join him in refusing all PAC money from Big Tech companies in a Thursday tweet.

Senator Ted Cruz annouced the upcoming vote this afternoon during a break on the last day of Supreme Court confirmation hearings for Judge Amy Coney Barrett.

“Never before have we seen active censorship of a major press publication with serious allegations of corruption of one of the two candidates for president,” Cruz stated.

“This is election interference, and we’re 19 days out from an election. It has no precedent in the history of democracy. The Senate Judiciary Committee wants to know what the hell is going on!” he added.

According to Cruz, the subpoena will call for Dorsey to appear before the committee next Friday.

“Let me be clear, I don’t know if these New York Post stories are true or not,” Cruz went on. “Those are questions Vice President Joe Biden should answer, but Twitter and Facebook and Big Tech billionaires don’t get to censor political speech and actively interfere in the election — that’s what they’re doing right now.”

The New York Post exposé was also suppressed on Facebook after the company’s Policy Communications Manager and lifelong Democrat Party operative Andy Stone said the company had buried the article.

In response to the suppression, New York Post editor Sohrab Ahmari described the move as a “Big Tech Coup” and “digital civil war,” explaining, “I, an editor at The New York Post, one of the nation’s largest papers by circulation, can’t post one of our own stories that details corruption by a major-party presidential candidate, Biden.”

If it’s okay with all of you, I’d like to read you something I personally wrote as I thought about these issues. I’ll also tweet it out now.

I want to start by making something clear: we don’t consider political viewpoints, perspectives, or party affiliation in any of our policies or enforcement decisions. Period. Impartiality is our guiding principle. Let me explain why.

We believe many people use Twitter as a digital public square. They gather from all around the world to see what’s happening, and have a conversation about what they see.

Twitter cannot rightly serve as a public square if it’s constructed around the personal opinions of its makers. We believe a key driver of a thriving public square is the fundamental human right of freedom of opinion and expression.

Our early and strong defense of open and free exchange has enabled Twitter to be THE platform for activists, marginalized communities, whistleblowers, journalists, governments and the most influential people around the world. Twitter will always default to open and free exchange.

A default to free expression left unchecked can generate risks and dangers for people. It’s important Twitter distinguishes between people’s opinions and behaviors, and disarms behavior intending to silence another person, or adversely interfere with their universal human rights.

We build our policies and rules with a principle of impartiality: objective criteria, rather than on the basis of bias, prejudice, or preferring the benefit to one person over another for improper reasons. If we learn we failed to create impartial outcomes, we work hard to fix.

In the spirit of accountability and transparency: recently we failed our intended impartiality. Our algorithms were unfairly filtering 600,000 accounts, including some members of Congress, from our search auto-complete and latest results. We fixed it. But how did it happen?

Our technology was using a decision making criteria that considers the behavior of people following these accounts. We decided that wasn’t fair, and corrected. We‘ll always improve our technology and algorithms to drive healthier usage, and measure the impartiality of outcomes.

Bias in algorithms is an important topic. Our responsibility is to understand, measure, and reduce accidental bias due to factors such as the quality of the data used to train our algorithms. This is an extremely complex challenge facing everyone applying artificial intelligence.

For our part, machine learning teams at Twitter are experimenting with these techniques and developing roadmaps to ensure present and future machine learning models uphold a high standard when it comes to algorithmic fairness. It’s an important step towards ensuring impartiality.

Looking at the data, we analyzed tweets sent by all members of the House and Senate, and found no statistically significant difference between the number of times a tweet by a Democrat is viewed versus a Republican, even after our ranking and filtering of tweets has been applied.

Also, there’s a distinction we need to make clear. When people follow you, you’ve earned that audience. And we have a responsibility to make sure they can see your tweets. We do not have a responsibility, nor you a right, to amplify your tweets to audiences that don’t follow you.

What our algorithms decide to show in shared spaces, like search results, is based on thousands of signals that constantly learn and evolve over time. Some of those signals are engagement, some are the number of abuse reports. We balance all of these to prevent gaming our system.

We acknowledge the growing concern people have of the power held by companies like Twitter. We believe it’s dangerous to ask Twitter to regulate opinions or be the arbiter of truth. We’d rather be judged by the impartiality of outcomes, and criticized when we fail this principle.

In closing, when I think of our work, I think of my mom and dad in St. Louis, a Democrat and a Republican. We had lots of frustrating and heated debates, but looking back, I appreciate I was able to hear and challenge different perspectives. And I appreciate I felt safe to do so.

We believe Twitter helps people connect to something bigger than themselves, shows all the amazing things happening in the world, and all the things we need to acknowledge and address. We‘re constantly learning how to make it freer and healthier for all to participate. Thank you.

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey called the social media network’s censorship of a New York Post report about Hunter Biden, done “with zero” explanation, “unacceptable” in a Wednesday evening tweet.

The New York Post’s Wednesday-released report, which alleged that Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and his son, Hunter, met with a top executive of the Ukrainian gas company Burisma in 2015, was met with censorship all over social media, leading to multiple instances of pushback from conservatives.

Twitter has followed Facebook’s example by censoring a New York Post article about Joe Biden’s foreign lobbying scandal after users were prevented from tweeting links to the story, leading one NY Post editor to describe the move as an act of “digital civil war.”

As we highlighted earlier, Facebook announced that it would be preventing the story from spreading on its site after the company’s Policy Communications Manager and lifelong Democrat Party operative Andy Stone said the company had buried the article in its algorithm.

The story, which has been met with denials from the Biden campaign, claims that Hunter Biden had introduced his father, then-Vice President Joe Biden, to a top executive in a Ukrainian energy firm a year before Biden pressured the government of Ukraine to fire a prosecutor who was investigating the company.

Now Twitter has moved to censor the story too by blocking users from tweeting out the link.

When attempting to tweet out a link to the New York Post, users receive a message informing them that the URL is “harmful” and the tweet doesn’t send.
