‘States failed to follow their own election laws’: Senator Hawley Commits to Challenging Electoral College Results
“I cannot vote to certify without pointing out the unprecedented effort of mega-corporations, including Facebook and Twitter, to interfere in this election, in support of Joe Biden.”
Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) has committed to challenging the Electoral College results on the 6th of January, becoming the first Senator to join the growing number of House Republicans who say they will object to the results of the 2020 presidential election.
“I cannot vote to certify the electoral college results on Jan. 6 without raising the fact that some states, particularly Pennsylvania, failed to follow their own state election laws,” Hawley said in a Wednesday statement.
“And I cannot vote to certify without pointing out the unprecedented effort of mega-corporations, including Facebook and Twitter, to interfere in this election, in support of Joe Biden,” he added.
The Senator would point out how Democrats had objected to the electoral votes of the 2004 and 2016 election with “praise by Democratic leadership and the media,” adding that those concerned with the results of this year’s election are entitled to do the same.
As the Epoch Times notes:
For the past several weeks, Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.) and other House GOP lawmakers have pledged to object to the counting of the Electoral College votes during the Joint Session of Congress. Their effort requires a senator and a House member that would trigger a series of debates before a vote on whether to certify a state’s Electoral College votes is held.
Some members of the GOP leadership, including Majority Whip John Thune (R-S.D.), have said their efforts are doomed to fail. And over the past weekend, Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.), in comments widely publicized by news outlets, referred to Brooks’s effort as “a scam.”
While some GOP members have their doubts over the objection, it remains to be seen if Republican Senators such as Rand Paul and Ted Cruz will join the challenge.
Paul recently claimed the election was “stolen” by states that used the COVID crisis to change election law in order to sway results in favor of Biden while Cruz has signaled that as long as litigation over the results continue he does not believe the Senate will confirm any nominee.
