SCOTUS Tosses AG Paxton’s Lawsuit, Texas GOP Calls For Succession

The Supreme court on Friday tossed the last ditch effort by the state of Texas to overturn the election results in 4 battleground states.

Justice Samuel Alito wrote in a brief that Texas “has not demonstrated a judicially cognizable interest in the manner in which another State conducts its elections,” adding “All other pending motions are dismissed as moot.”

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton had argued that Pennsylvania, Georgia, Wisconsin, and Michigan had used the COVID-19 pandemic to conduct the 2020 election in an unconstitutional manner, specifically violating the Electors Clause and the Equal Protection Clause. It sought to ask the Court to invalidate over 20 million votes so that the state’s GOP-controlled state legislatures could decide who won the election.

17 other states and over 100 House Republicans had sign on to the suit with their support.

In response to the SCOTUS decision, the Texas GOP appears to be calling for succession.
