With police departments across the United States having their budgets slashed to appease the left-wing agenda of groups like Black Lives Matter, the federal government is pouring hundreds of thousands of dollars into pushing “gender equality” in Costa Rican police forces.

The Costa Rican National Police force is being issued a $200,000 taxpayer funded grant through the State Department’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) in an effort to “develop an empowerment strategy on gender equality.”

According to the grant announcement, the funded efforts will include “a system of theoretical and practical modules that facilitate strategies to train police officers in current gender issues.”

The money will also go toward “manuals of good practices” that will be applied in police and administrative activities that will verify the application of gender equality in daily police and administrative work.

Additionally, the Costa Rican National Police will use the funds to hold the first institutional meeting of women leaders in gender matters in order to “analyze the findings of the systematizations and to create a national agenda for the empowerment of the police forces in the promotion of gender equity and prevention of gender violence in all its forms.”

Justifying its efforts, the grants introduction reads: “With half of the world’s population being women, educating, empowering and recognizing their talent is fundamental to succeeding in a rapidly-changing world.”

It explains that Costa Rican officials have the goal of achieving gender equality by 2030 and that American taxpayer funds will help achieve that.

If deemed successful, the INL would be willing to expand the project subject to the availability of future funding.

The public funding of social justice efforts for Costa Rican law enforcement comes as police departments across the United States have their budgets slashed amid mounting pressure from “woke” left-wing politicians and activist.

It also coincide with large surges in crime within those cities falling victim to the Defund the Police movement.

The Seattle police department announced this month that it would be slashing about $69 million in funding as homicides in the city climb to their highest level in more than a decade.

On Thursday, the Minneapolis City Council approved cutting their police department’s budget by $8 million as the city has seen a 331% increase in car jackings and an almost 5 fold increase in violent crime compared to last year.

An over $100 million slashing to the Los Angeles Police budget also occurred this year as killings in the city have spiked 25% over last year and shootings are up more than 32%.

Besides coming at the worst possible time for American’s living in major cities – considering the violence sparked by negative mainstream media police narratives and political unrest – the “Defund the Police” movement has recently taken criticism from its own on the left.

Potential 46th President Joe Biden said that the “Defund the Police” movement was used by Republicans to “beat the living hell out of [Democrats]” in down-ballot races in the November election.

“That’s how they beat the living hell out of us across the country, saying that we’re talking about defunding the police. We’re not,” Biden said in leaked audio obtained by The Intercept. “We’re talking about holding them accountable.”

Former President Barack Obama recently shot a warning at political candidates who use the “snappy” slogan of “defund the police,” saying: “You lost a big audience the minute you say it, which makes it a lot less likely that you’re actually going to get the changes you want done.”
