83 House Members Reject Democrat Plan to Prevent Lawmakers From Carrying Firearms on Capitol Hill

“I will not let a bunch of gun-grabbing House Democrats take away my Constitutional right to protect myself.”

More than 80 members of the House of Representatives are taking a stand against a Democrat plan to end lawmakers’ eligibility to carry firearms on the grounds of Capitol Hill under current regulations.

The effort is being lead by Representative Lauren Boebert (R-CO) who says she refuses to give up her ability to carry a firearm while spending time in the crime ridden District of Columbia.

“I refuse to give up my Second Amendment rights,” Boebert said in a statement, adding:

“I’m a 5-foot tall, 100-pound mom with four children and will be walking to work and serving in one of the most dangerous cities in the U.S. I choose to defend my family and my life with all of the force the Constitution provides. I will not let a bunch of gun-grabbing House Democrats take away my Constitutional right to protect myself.”

The Colorado representative’s call for allowing the continuation to pack heat has been joined by 82 other members including Louie Gohmert, Matt Gaetz, and Dan Crenshaw.

Gun Owners of America, the National Rifle Association and the Conservative Partnership Institute have also come out in support of Boebert’s effort.

Since the late 1960’s, members of congress have been able to possess and carry firearms on Capitol Hill under U.S. Capitol Police Board regulations.

The regulations state that no federal or District of Columbia laws restricting firearms “shall prohibit any Member of Congress from maintaining firearms within the confines of his office” or “from transporting within Capitol grounds firearms unloaded and securely wrapped,” according to the Associated Press.

Recently, 21 Democrat House members sent a letter to Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy to include “a provision in the Rules package directing the Capitol Police Board to ensure that Members of Congress may not possess firearms on Capitol grounds.”

The Democrats backing the measure say they want members of Congress held to the same gun control rules as the public.

“Ultimately, the current regulations create needless risk for Members of Congress, their staff, members of the Capitol Police, and visitors to the Capitol grounds,” the Democrat’s letter reads.

“A provision in the Rules package directing the Capitol Police Board to ensure that Member of Congress may not possess firearms on Capitol grounds would ensure clarity surrounding firearms policy and protect all individuals in and around the Capitol. We urge inclusion of this commonsense protection in the 117th Congress.”

The House of Representatives is expected to take up the House Rules Package during the week of January 4.

In defense of their hard stance on the Second Amendment, the letter signed by the 83 House members highlights two instances where carrying a firearm would have been in the best interest of members including the shooting at Eugene Simpson Stadium Park in Alexandria, Virginia, where rep. Steve Scalise was hit with a bullet during a practice for the annual congressional baseball game.

It also mentions a 1998 instance in which a gunman entered the Capitol through a member and employee entrance and started a shoot out with Capitol Police. The gunman would ultimately kill two officers before being shot and apprehended in the office of then Majority Whip Tom DeLay.

Nearly 200 people had been killed from gun violence in Washington D.C. last year with local Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner, Darrell Gaston, calling the city a “war-zone.”

“Imagine what it feels like to walk outside and take your trash to the trash can,” Gaston said. “It’s a war zone.”

The city’s homicide count in 2020 was the highest it’s been since 2005.

With that noted, we doubt Boebert will ever relinquish her weapon of choice while on Capitol Hill …

NeoCon Hack John Bolton Calls on GOP to Purge Trumpism

Bolton’s suggestion is interesting given almost 72 percent of Republican voters believe the party should be more like Trump …

Former National Security Adviser John Bolton, a prominent NeoCon who became a harsh critic of President Trump after leaving his administration, has called on the GOP to purge the “taint” of Trumpism from the party.

“There has to be a serious conversation in the Republican Party about how to remove the taint of what Trump has done, how to repair the damage,” he said during an interview with MSNBC’s Katy Tur. “And while I think the damage is considerable, I think it can be repaired, and it should be repaired. And it should be — from the purely limited perspective of the party, it should be the highest priority going forward.”

To accomplish this goal, Bolton called on the Republican Party’s establishment to exercise more control over the candidate nomination process, ensuring the candidate ultimately nominated has “real character” and “a real philosophy, as opposed to people like Donald Trump.”

Bolton’s suggestion that the Republican Party should nominate candidates that hold ideological views counter to President Trump is interesting given almost 72 percent of Republican voters believe the party should be more like Trump as opposed to the average Republican member of Congress.

Despite President Trump having won more votes than any Republican presidential candidate in history, Bolton argued Trump’s presidency was “an aberration in American politics” and suggested those Republicans who objected to the certification of the Electoral College “should be held accountable.”

“I think individual Republicans are going to have to make decisions whether they support individuals who have participated in this effort to stop the election from being certified. And I think there’s a lot that remains to be seen from their behavior,” he declared.

Trump recently criticized Bolton on Twitter after Bolton highlighted media reports claiming Trump was considering a declaration of martial law to stay in office, calling Bolton “one of the dumbest people in Washington.”

Pelosi Is Officially Launching Second Trump Impeachment, Will Also Activate 25th Amendment

Pelosi is moving cautiously despite internal pressure from her caucus to punish Trump …

Update (1900ET): In a letter sent late on Sunday, Nancy Pelosi confirmed that the coming week will be focused entirely on removing Trump out of office, when she informed colleagues that the House will pass a resolution calling on Pence to invoke the 25th amendment. This will be followed by impeachment.

Her full letter below:

Dear Democratic Colleague,

On this Sunday, as we pray that God will continue to Bless America, I write to inform you of our next actions, which will be made with the great solemnity that this moment requires.

I want to call to your immediate attention the action to be taken tomorrow morning, when Majority Leader Hoyer will request Unanimous Consent to bring up the Raskin resolution. This resolution calls on the Vice President to convene and mobilize the Cabinet to activate the 25th Amendment to declare the President incapable of executing the duties of his office, after which the Vice President would immediately exercise powers as acting President. The text of the resolution can be found here.

If we do not receive Unanimous Consent, this legislation is planned to be brought up on the Floor the following day. We are calling on the Vice President to respond within 24 hours.

Next, we will proceed with bringing impeachment legislation to the Floor.

In protecting our Constitution and our Democracy, we will act with urgency, because this President represents an imminent threat to both. As the days go by, the horror of the ongoing assault on our democracy perpetrated by this President is intensified and so is the immediate need for action.

I look forward to our Caucus call tomorrow. I am grateful to all Members for the suggestions, observations and input that you have been sending. Your views on the 25th Amendment, 14th Amendment Section 3 and impeachment are valued as we continue. I am answering your communications in chronological order and will do so into the night.

Thank you for your patriotism.

Prayerfully,

In other words, the second impeachment of Trump will begin on Tuesday if Pence refuses to invoke the 25th amendment, for which Pelosi has given the VP 24 hours.

There are just a few caveats: as the Constitution Center explains, to forcibly wrest power from Trump, Vice President Mike Pence would have to be on board, according to the text of the amendment. Pence would also need either a majority of Trump’s Cabinet officials to agree the President is unfit for office and temporarily seize power from him. Neither is very likely.

Next, Trump could dispute their move with a letter to Congress. Pence and the Cabinet would then have four days to dispute him, Congress would then vote — it requires a two-thirds supermajority, usually 67 senators and 290 House members to permanently remove him. This too is unlikely.

Congress could also appoint its own body to review the President’s fitness instead of the Cabinet. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, during the last Congress, introduced a bill to create a congressional body for this purpose, but it was not signed into law.

* * * * *

Democratic efforts to impeach President Trump for a second time are well underway, with a senior Democratic lawmaker telling Bloomberg that a House vote on articles of impeachment could come as soon as Tuesday, which would then be held for several months before they send them to the Senate in order to avoid triggering an immediate trial.

According to House Majority Whip James Clyburn, Democrats are “working hard” on an article of impeachment which demonstrates that Trump is “unqualified to be president.”

I think that will come probably Tuesday and maybe Wednesday,” Clyburn told “Fox News Sunday.”

Meanwhile, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi gave Trump an ultimatum last week; resign immediately, or face impeachment 2.0 for encouraging supporters to march on Capitol Hill last Wednesday – when a mostly peaceful protest against the counting of Electoral College votes turned into what the left is calling an ‘insurrection’ after law enforcement oddly opened the doors to the building, allowing protesters to ‘storm’ the Capitol.

According to Bloomberg, Pelosi is moving cautiously despite internal pressure from her caucus to punish Trump – while President-elect Joe Biden has made clear that he isn’t interested in a Trump impeachment sideshow while his administration is trying to focus on their agenda. Pelosi has told lawmakers to be “prepared to return to Washington” this week for a potential impeachment vote or some other type of formal response to Trump’s alleged role in encouraging the breach on Capitol hill that left five people dead (despite the fact that he told supporters to peacefully assemble and to peacefully leave following the incident).

According to Clyburn, however, any successful impeachment in the House could be held for 100 days or more to avoid upstaging Biden.

Let’s give President-elect Biden the 100 days he needs to get his agenda off and running, and maybe we’ll send the articles some time after that,” he said.

At least 195 House Democrats have signed on to one of the impeachment articles, and some Republicans have said they believe Trump conduct is impeachable, although they question how the process would play out with less than two weeks left in his term.

In a letter to fellow Democrats Saturday, Pelosi stopped short of saying she intended to move forward with impeachment or another process aimed at removing Trump from office before his term expires on Jan. 20, yet she insisted that he be held responsible in some fashion. –Bloomberg

It is absolutely essential that those who perpetrated the assault on our democracy be held accountable,” said Pelosi in a Saturday letter. “There must be a recognition that this desecration was instigated by the president.”

Meanwhile, a small group of House Republicans led by Colorado Rep. Ken Buck are trying to encourage Biden to persuade Pelosi to back off a Trump impeachment – warning in a Saturday letter that doing so would inflame Trump supporters and derail Biden’s plans to ‘unify the country’ (as social media giants engage in politically-driven cancel spree against Trump and his supporters).

As far as Trump leaving office now? Biden suggests letting the presidential transition occur so his administration can “get our agenda moving as quickly as we can.”

“It’s important we get on with the business getting him out of office. The quickest way that that will happen is us being sworn in on the 20th,” Biden said during a Wilmington, Delaware press conference last week. “I am focused now on us taking control as president and vice president on the 20th, and to get our agenda moving as quickly as we can.

LIMBAUGH: Lindsey Graham Never Wanted To Help Trump’s Goals, Only To Make Him Act ‘More Like A Washingtonian’

“He tried to rein Trump in and get Trump to behave more like a Washingtonian, but he just couldn’t do it.”

While returning to the radio for the first time in the New Year for his Friday broadcast, Rush Limbaugh answered questions from a caller about the four year performance of Sen. Lindsey Graham, wherein the South Carolina senator attempted to ingratiate himself with President Donald Trump and his base, while actually attempting to coo President Trump into moderating his personality.

Limbaugh explained that, in Graham’s mind, helping President Trump did not mean subpoenaing the Obama administration holdovers and Democrats who inspired the Russia hoax. Instead, according to Limbaugh, Graham’s version of helping the President involved warming up to Democrats like Sen. Chuck Schumer.

“What Lindsey Graham means is he tried to get Trump to tone it down. He tried to get Trump to behave according to Washington norms,” said Limbaugh. “He tried to rein Trump in and get Trump to behave more like a Washingtonian, but he just couldn’t do it. He gave it everything he’s got. He wasn’t talking about helping Trump defeat his enemies.”

As the caller remained confused by Limbaugh’s response, he noted that Graham does not operate like a normal American, and believed his best way to help the President was to gain favor with Schumer and other Democrats.

“I mean, if you want a career in Washington, if you want a career in the Washington political class, you will divorce yourself from MAGA. You will divorce yourself from Trump,” said Limbaugh. The caller remained confused.

Limbaugh explained, “When [Graham] says that [he tried to help Trump], he’s talking to Schumer, he’s talking to the Democrats, he’s talking to the media, ‘Hey, look. I tried to help. I tried to get this guy reined in. I tried to make him more like us, and I really thought I was succeeding, but it didn’t work.’”

Limbaugh also noted that his listeners should expect the Republican Party to fully abandon President Trump and his goal of ensuring election integrity in future elections.

“And guess what? It isn’t gonna happen. And you’re gonna be deflated and disappointed yet again in the people you’ve been trusting. That’s exactly what they want.”
